MP3 Sound Level

Sogni

*gone*
iTunes has a “Sound Check” option in it’s prefs, but it does not always want to work – or it seems it does not permanently affect the MP3s (does not write the new volume setting to file?).

Does anyone know how – or recommend a way to make ALL MP3s have the same volume setting, not just in iTunes, but when I play the files from another app or portable player?

Thanks! :)

It won't work if the MP3 files are write-protected (pick one of the files in the finder, choose Show Info and check that you have read and write priveleges).
As far as I know, it analyses the file and then stores the sound-check setting as part of the ID-tag embedded in the file. So it does need to write to the file. It must also keep track of which files it has done, so once you correct the priveleges you may need to re-import the songs to get it to re-do the sound-check.

The problem is that this is happening to new MP3s I add to iTunes, the sound is not being adjusted.

I checked the Prefs and Sound Check IS enabled... so I thought "maybe if I uncheck it, quit, relaunch and check it back on - it'll figure it out and adjust the new ones" - nope, nada...

I selected "Show song file" on one that I feel needs to be adjusted to check it's permissions - and it's set at Read/Write.
