Google translation sucks:

But basically the news is that MS will shut down all of its chat services (msn) in Europe starting Oct. 14 because of security issues and to protect their customers from spammers and the like! ::ha::

On a side note they sy that they will let customers in USA continue to chat, but only if they supply their credit card number...

Wow, now I feel safe!

Total MS bull!

Here is the official MSN statement:

The strategy: close all free services, close MSN messenger protocols and start charging for it.. simple.

Figures...

I don't use MSN anyway. I wouldn't use AIM, either, but everybody I know uses it if they use anything.

This is not about MSN messenger, basically. It's about the unmoderated MSN chatrooms. I don't think I've ever used them, anyway... Anyway, what do we care? ;-)

As long as Messenger stays alive I don't mind! I am not into internet chat at all, unless it's something I am interested in.
In my opinion forums are better!

Oh and... WE NEED A MESSENGER UPDATE!

I would welcome the end of this type of anonymous unmoderated chatroom. Any moves to eliminate hunting grounds for pedophiles can only be a good thing. Instant messenging is a more efficient method of communication anyway!

MS isn't closing the chat rooms, they're just going to be making money from them now on the pretense that they'll be able to find pedifiles, etc. You have to use a Credit Card now.

That's the M$ way: Get as many people as possible to use your service and then all of a sudden charge for it. But... wait... APPLE DID IT, TOO (.mac)!

I didn't know about the credit card thing, I was on my way out to work when I caught a Sky News piece telling everyone that the service was closing in Europe. They neglected to mention anything about credit cards. Ah well, thats what I get for watching such a well informed, non-biased, rational and non-sensationalist news channel:rolleyes:
