multiple accounts on mail

there seems to be a bug with the mail app where one pop account (yahoo) is fine but set up another one and no matter what I do it asks me for the password and then sais it has been rejected by the server. I have logged in via the web to prove the user name and password is valid.

I have tried deleting and recreating the account in mail and have also tried recreating the kaychain

Other people have also seemed to be experiencing the same thing

Can anybody shed any light on this one

Which version of the os are you using. I use mail also and combine up tot total of 18 accounts (some of them POP3, most of them IMAP) without any problems. Maybe the account names are to much alike, so retrieving passwords from the keychain fails and by retrieving the wrong password you run into this kind of problems. I have used 10.3 mail in the past and are using 10.4 mail at the moment.

Telling us which email account works is good to know, but you need help with the one which does not work. What is the ISP of your troublesome account?

In the meantime, reenter your settings very carefully. The most likely source of mistakes is one of your port settings. Once you are assured that all of your settings are correct, then call up tech support. Sometimes the written instructions are just plain wrong. Go step-by-step through each setting with the tech support person.

Thanks for the replys so far

I am in Oz so it is an australian ISP (Internode) The 2 accounts are both yahoo accounts with different usernames and different passwords.

The only similarity the 2 share is that they both use th same outgoing and incoming mail server

I am using OS 10.4.8 (tiger). I have checked and re checked the settingsd and recreated the accounts but to no avail
