TOO POOR FOR DOUBLE DISPLAY!!!

but when i'm on my laptop, i run half on my display and half on the LCD screen... quite nice, although hectic in windows... the same on mac?

Right now I just use my built in LCD, since 1152x768 seems enough for me, but I'm thinking of lugging up an old PC monitor that's down collecting dust in the basement. Problem is, there's not enough room. I've already got my TiBook and old Wallstreet on this desk! I'll figure it out :)

BlingBling:

Hectic, as in "akward to set up"?
...
:|
HAHAHAHAHA..........
...ahem... sorry.

actually, I can relate... one of my machines is a thinkpad hooked up to a 17".
I don't split it tho.

well, for the mac - it goes something like this:
1) snap card into pci slot
2) plug in monitor
3) turn on computer
4) pick a resolution, color depth, and where it's "placed" in relation to the others in the monitors contol panel.

In X, I can even specify the second monitor to mirror the first.
Good for presentations.

ksuther:

hey! I've got an old Wallstreet too!!! we're like long lost brothers! (kidding)
mine's a 233 with the 14" display. thinking about selling it off.
I've got Ti envy pretty bad.

I had TiEnvy pretty bad too until I got this :)
My Wallstreet is a 292 14", but when I got it back from Apple Tech it was a 350 :) I can't complain...

Anton... in Windows it goes like this...

Plug in VGA
Right-click... Configure Monitors
Whoops... it's on the wrong side... reconfigure
Yell Incoherently until you get pissed off and decide not to use it
Dream of a TiBook with the wide screen...

LOLOL!!!!!

yeah, I've done that before....
granted, my mac has made me do that a few times too.
No 'puter is perfect.
I end up making that funny sound that slices out of the nose:
"NNNGGGGAAAAAAAAA!!!!"

Hey - one of the things I've noticed... and someone please correct me if I'm wrong - but I haven't seen where you can use two separate desktop images for each screen under Windows. Is that even possible?

Funny, it is one of those things that long time Mac users don't think about that much. I can remember someone (with a ton of money) putting 4 monitors on the old Mac II not too long after they came out (ca. 1988). I have one system with two Apple 16" displays attached and another with three 21" Radius displays on it. It is great for displaying palettes in Photoshop, my navigation palette takes up a large area of my second monitor. And working with page layout apps is great also because you get to see the pages at actual size (and up to 6 pages at a time) on the three 21" display system. Here are what those systems look like (top one is running Mac OS 8.1 bottom 8.6).

RacerX... I thought that "more than 2" poll was yours.
;)

I recognized your background and saw your post from the other thread about workspace photos.

Nice.
I'm only on 2 at the moment, but am scrounging around for another card to drop in to make 3.

I'm also working up a prototype of a triple 17" studio display that I'd like to make real someday (not sure of the possibility, but it's a fine dream to have)
I did a mockup in photoshop if anyone's interested in seeing it.

check this out.

totally faked up, but not impossible.
:D
