Multiple Partition Issue...

hello, im trying to set up Boot Camp on my Mac.. but, it keeps saying "Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant again." every time i try to PArtition.. so, i checked my disk utility and it said i have 2 partitions when i click info... now.. i dont understand why i have 2 partitions.. i dont believe i've done anything to add an extra partition... now, my mother owns a iMac and under info it says 0 partitions... so, im not sure how i am to fix my problem without completely wiping out my hard-drive... is there a way to remove a partition without wiping the hard-drive?
