I just upgraded from a mac G3 to a macbook pro, and attempted to use my music on the new itunes. A few years ago I moved my music onto an external hard drive, and when I opened the new itunes, I went to the advanced preferences and just changed where to find the library to my external hard drive. I moved all the songs into itunes. the songs are all there, but I lost all the ratings and playlists and playcounts. I went back to my G3 and exported the music library.xml function. I put it in the Macbook pro and imported the xml, but it only gave the ratings for about 30 songs, and the playlists. I went back to my G3 and looked at the music library files, and noticed that in my itunes file, I had the 30 songs still on my computer hard drive, not my external hard drive. I exported the music.txt file (which has all the playcount information) and tried to import it, but it didn't recognize the songs.
So how do I transfer all the metadata over (playlists, play counts, etc.) when most of the music is in an external hard drive and apparently didn't transfer over when I moved the music over the first time?
thanks!
