My Book lights up but doesn't spin

Could mean the usb or firewire cable is unplugged. Could also mean the controller board in the enclosure is dead (seen that more than once). Could mean the directory structure is corrupted. Could also mean the drive is gone. Does it sound like the the drive spins up when you power it up?
 
I have tried different cables, a different computer and a different location. I plug in the power supply and it lights up. Earlier today it was trying to spin up but stopped after about 10 seconds. Just now it only hiccuped for a split second. Nothing else happens when I connect the cable, neither firewire nor usb.
