My display just stopped working...

This is my sister's laptop (that I can't use for very long and is small and has keys missing from the keyboard making it harder to type)

I have a mac, G4 tower, with an external 20 something inch external CRT mac cinema display (I'm not too sure about it since I never had a manual. It has a little button below the screen to the left that goes to display prefrences when you hit it.)

So the display seems like it should work. The power light turns on, the light turns green when I turn on the computer so it's getting some sort of signal.

The mouse and keyboard (which are connected to the monitor not the computer itself) work too (though they are connected from USB connector's on the monitor, not the display connection.)

So I have no idea what to do. I tried resetting, turning off and on, and different timings put together. The cable is securely attached to the computer and display so if you have any suggestions I'd appreciate them. The manual=I tried it, didn't work.

This has happened before but it started working again after I reset and turned it off and on again.

I don't have any other monitors to try the computer on (this laptop doesn't have a display out or in) so I can't test it that way.

Does the display preferences menu appear on the screen when you press that button, but just no video from the computer -- or is there absolutely no video at all?

The 17" B&W and graphite-colored Apple Studio Display CRT monitors were subject to a "pop-dim-zoom" effect as the monitor slowly died prematurely. To a lesser extent, the 21" CTR displays from the same time were also affected. Did you notice any screen distortion or abnormal behavior prior to the monitor ceasing working?

No, I can't say that I've ever had anyone popping sounds coming from it or any auto-degausing either.

There is absolutely NO video on the monitor. Just black. It's been like this since yesterday.

I just left the screensaver on when I left it alone for a minute and when I came back it was black, and nothing I did would get it to give me a picture.

I don't know if this display is the one you mention, but I hope that I can fix it, because I don't want to replace it...
