MY DVD player/burner wont work! Help please!

Yesterday my dvd player/burner worked fine, tonight all of a sudden an error popped up -70012. I dont understand, I have used my Mac 10.4.2 for almost a year now with no problems with my cd/dvd burner or player, now it says that there is no valid dvd drive???? Please help ...
 
Thanks...but im not to knowledgable with macs...but it worked yesterday..what happened betweed yesterday and today. my mac wont even take in any cd or dvd..they just stick out on the side and dont go in the computer? does that make sense
 
Are you running OS X 10.4.2? If so, update to the latest version (10.4.8).

What kind of iMac are you using? G3, G4, G5 or Intel? Are you using an internal or external drive?
 
Thanks for your help...I will update it, but i just unplugged my computer and plugged it back in and rebooted it. It is working now..wierd!!
