My iBook won't recognize the hard drive

My iBook won't recognize the hard drive. I tried changing the hard drive with three or four other hard drives, but it is of no use. OS X.3 CD's won't recognize the harddrives. I get the flashing globe followed by the flashing question mark. What could be wrong? Thanks

Are these internal hard disks? Do they have an operating system installed on them? Have they been formatted?

These are internal disks. They do not have an Operating System on them. These discs came from PC laptops.

Does Disk Utility see the drives?

It does not see the drives.
It sees the Mac OS X CD only.

Before you install OSX, have you tried to reformat the drive(s).. In other words, the first install disk of OSX, you boot from has options on the menu bar. You can use Disk Utility at this point and reformat the drive before installing anything.

Not, sure, but the PC drives may not be compatible.
