My LaCie Disk doesn't mount suddenly

Hi!

I have OSX, version 10.4.11 and three external LaCie Disks. I have had no problems for several years. The newest one I have had for around six months. That one is not the issue. Suddenly a few weeks ago, I booted up my computer and the second disk didn't mount on my desktop and had the error: Disk Insertion, The Disk you inserted is not readable by this computer, and then had a choice to Initialize, Ignore or Eject. I tried all three. Initialize took me to Disk Utility where the disk actually showed up, but said it wasn't mounted. Duh!

Anyway, I tried mounting it, repairing it, and nothing. I shut the computer down a few times and restarted again, and eventually it did mount. And stayed mounted as long as I didn't shut the computer down but put it to sleep instead. Since I'm an editor, I use up a lot of memory and have to shut down every once in a while... I'm hardly a tech, though. I need to get some work done, and although I've been archiving a lot of work, I still have some stuff on that disk that I urgently need and cannot spend like umpteen shutdowns to get that disk to mount. What could suddenly be the problem?

Maybe you should get a GOOD disk fixing utility like Alsoft's DiskWarrior. Plus LaCie IMHO is not the best for firewire externals. Just search this board and you will see hundreds of LaCie problems as well as on other boards. You would be better of going with a drive from OWC.

How are the three disks mounted ie. each one directly to the computer (what model, how many firewire ports?), or are they daisy-chained? This may appear basic, but have you tried connecting the external drives in different ways, and with different (new) cables?

Every time I (and others) have submitted an external drive problem, the response has nearly always been "have you checked/replaced the cables?"
 
I've got the first G5, so the first disk is connected to the computer (firewire) and the others are daisy chained (also firewire). The one that stopped mounting is the middle one. I did try switching the cables around but no luck. The same one didn't mount. The power is ON, and I can hear it whirring and everything. It's also recognized as an unknown disk by the computer.
