I was borrowing a "friend's" (acquaintance's) car on 12/22 and that car got stolen, with my laptop and iPod in it. (Powerbook G4 400 mhz and 5GB iPod)

Turns out that the car was not stolen, but taken by this guy's ex girlfriend. They are enemies, of course. This girl is my friend's cousin. She returned everything in the car to him, including the iPod, but NOT THE LAPTOP!!!!!

So I got my iPod back, but my laptop is gone. She denies everything.

However, I insured it agains theft / fire / etc., and I am getting the original purchase price for it, which is $2600. I will have it next week.

So this little $@!!# did me a favor by stealing my 400 mhz laptop. Now I can buy a brand new 867 mhz or 1 GHz powerbook.

And just before macworld, too!

My question:
Will any new hardware be announced at Macworld, or will anything drive the prices down of the laptops? I'll be ready to buy my laptop around the 14th of january.

Should I wait until the end of January? Or more???

Should I get a brand new 867 mhz or a 1 Ghz off ebay?

What should I do?

i've never seen an insurance company do a payout so quickly. they told you you would have the money next week?

Lmao at that! So you're kinda happy or angry/sad? Don't you have important files in your laptop though? (or maybe they're all backed up)

Hmm, well i'm no expert but, seeing how i won't be the only one to reply, I would wait until the very beginning of February just in case
 
Yes I reported it to the insurance about 12/26. Around 12/30 or 12/31 I got the call saying I'd have the money in a week. Pretty good. It is state farm insurance.

All my files are backed up. Oh man, if they weren't I would blow up her house.

I was never angry or sad because I had my files backed up every week, and I knew I had insurance covered the whole time.

Hmm my birthday is February 3. Birthday present?
 
MWSF is only a few days away. I know it is hard to wait but you never know.

In the meantime, check out eBay for some deals.

That is a happy/ticked situation. I just wish I had a TiBook in the first place.
 
my friend sold his 4runner for cash and bought a tibook. he then "rode" the book around town, scratching the screen and breaking the dvd. talk about a waste.
sure, this post has nothing to do with the thread, but i think we should all feel a little pain everytime something like this happens. happy new year
 
huh? One time me and my friends went offroading, with all our laptops in the back seat.

One Dell had a lcd screen on the front of the keyboard. Cracked. Another Dell bent all its pcmcia cards and the casing got loose. The hinges on a compaq broke.

My TiBook (the one that got stolen) survived flawlessly. Nothing happened to it at all.
 
Last year Apple released the 800 MHz TiBooks in April, after the previous revision in October (or at least something close to that). I would expect the next revision of the Ti to be at the earliest in April, although they may get BlueTooth before then (unlikely though). Hopefully the revision after that will have a new case and PPC970 Mobile at 1.2 GHz...
 
eBay isn't all bad. There are some very reputable people and vendors. But some people have had some problems.

Basically, look on eBay but only people with many reviews and no cash, money orders, etc.

eBay is fine. Remember, if you buy from someone who accepts escrow, then your money doesn't go to the seller. It goes to a company that holds your money, and doesn't give it to the seller until you confirm that what you bought is good. If it's broken or something, you can return it, and get your money back from escrow.
 
He had BAD experience. About as bad a the O'Grady PowerPage eBay incident.

eBay is fine, but there are some scams.
 
if twister bought from a seller with escrow, he wouldn't have had any problems.

Sorry to hear about it.....
