I am using a Rage 128 card in by blue G4 running OS X. Im using a DVI clear cinema display thing(DVI), and a viewsonic (VGA)
I can see the spinning thing on boot, but once it gets to the login screen, the DVI cuts out. I have to have a VGA monitor plugged in in order to log in. When OS X is logged in and ready to go, there are no settings for either moniter, just resolution. I cant even see that there is a DVI monitor connected. I can boot into single user mode on the DVI monitor, but i need my VGA monitor for my PC.

PLEASE HELP..

thank you.

This video card used to work, then the last IT guy who worked here messed it up or something. If the computer starts out in DVI and goes to VGA, there has to be a setting ussue somewhere.

Have you tried holding down Shift and booting into Safe Mode to see if the issue stops?

Are you trying to use both the VGA and the DVI port at the same time? The Rage 128 card can only use one or the other -- not both at the same time.

no, im not trying to use both at the same time, just the DVI. i can get into single user mode on the screen, but not the OS. this is seriously starting to annoy me... is there any way i can download a driver package in single user mode for the card to possibly solve the problem...

It sounds like perhaps the resolution set for the monitor via the VGA connector is being used also for the DVI connection, and that specific resolution isn't supported by the monitor connected via DVI.

You might try booting into "Safe Mode" by holding down the Shift key as it boots like nixgeek suggested -- then you may be able to access OS X and change the resolution to one supported by the DVI monitor.
