MyDoom successful?

I was reading MacWorld (UK) when I came across this article:

http://www.macworld.co.uk/news/main_news.cfm?NewsID=7878

Out of curiosity, I tried going to the Microsoft site but was unable to access the page (timed out). So, has MyDoom been successful after all? If so, it would be a bit ironic considering the timing of Bill Gates' speech on security (http://news.zdnet.co.uk/internet/security/0,39020375,39143723,00.htm).

Anyway, I was just wondering if there was just a local problem somehow, or whether the MS site really has been overwhelmed.

Contrary to media reports, Microsoft, SCO and Kazaa are all low priorities of this worm. Infection rate was the highest priority for the purpose of sending spam from infected systems and learning identity info from those infected.

Was MyDoom successful? Absolutely.

This was a professional piece of software, and the fact that it has worked means we can look forward to more of this type. We may be seeing the end of script-kiddies as a major threat and the beginning of something far worse.

Yes, the implication from the corporations seemed to imply someone beyond simple script-kiddy activities.

I read that it will self terminate on a particular date, is this rumour or can I look forward to getting back the use of my main e-mail address? At the moment it's chock full of spam and more keeps arriving every day!
