Could someone show me a good tutorial for using MySQL on Mac OS X? I've installed it but I get an error message that access is denied for the root user.
 
The best place to check out MySQL information would be at their site. Doesn't matter so much what operating system you're using if it's Unix-based since MySQL is the same on all those platforms.

I sure think so. It's the only place to look if you want documentation on MySQL in my opinion. I'm sure there are others but there's nothing wrong with going to the source. ;)
 
Just a tip; you have to log in as root to start the MySQL daemon. Then tell the server to use the mysql user when starting, like this:

In Terminal:

sudo -s
/usr/local/mysql/bin/mysqld_safe --user=mysql &
