What the heck are these?!?
login_items.jpg

Suddenly two things showed up in my Login Items:
  • N067U_ButtonManager
  • N067U_ButtonManager
What are these?
Are they some sort of virus?
Are they related to Netscape/Mozilla/Firebird? (That's the only thing I've installed lately...)
Can I kill them?

It's from the Cannon ScanGear multible button manager. I'd guess you got a Cannon ScanGear lately?

I've read that there could be a bit of incompatibility between those two apps - you actually only need one for the version of the scanner you have, but the installer installs both versions.

Unfortunately, I don't remember which one is which.

D'oh! Yeah... I did just get a scanner.

How did you figure out that's what these were?

(Why the heck didn't Canon name these something comprehensible?)

The scanner is an LiDE 30... How do I know which applicaiton is for this scanner since there is no correlation between the names?

Uhm...I'd guess disable one, login/logout and see if the button still works. :D

I knew about it because I read an article about it...I think it was on MacFixit. I'd tell you to go there and take a look, but they've decided that you have to subscribe these days to read articles over two days old, and this article was from a few months ago. Hmm, lemme check around a moment, maybe I can find somewhere else that has some info on it...

**few moments later**

You're in luck...for the LiDE 30, disable N067U_ButtonManager.

And now that I'm thinking about it, it may not be an incompatibility between the two, but that one of them sends out tons of info to the system log. Which can be a pain if it's a lot, it'll start eating up disk space. ;)
