Nearing the end?

Okay, so I just got myself an iBook 600mhz (traded a Pismo 500mhz for it).. Every 10-20 seconds or so it sounds like the drive tries to seek and then skips back. When I'm doing something like typing it doesn't do it, only when its idling. Is the hard drive on its way out? Does the AppleCare warranty cover it? (laptop was not dropped or anything)

Let me know thanks! :)

Did you buy it second hand? If its still under warranty then I suppose you could get it checked out by Apple.

Well I got it from someone after I traded my Pismo for it, is the Applecare warranty transferable?

Nope, nothing in the drive.

Another question, related to this.. In linux often times if there is a seek error I can check /var/log/messages, is there such a thing in Mac OS X?

Yea, it's even in the same place ;)
You have to use the Terminal, though.
