Nedit on 10.1.3?

So some time ago I successfully installed nedit 5.1.1 (which required the lestif 0.9.32 library) and ran it with the OroborOSX front end for XDarwin.

Unfortunately something in the last couple of months appears to have broken it, possibly the upgrade to 10.1.3, or possibly the newer releases of OroborOSX. The error message I get now is:

XmManager ClassInitialize: XmeTraitSet failed
Attempt to add non-widget child "DropSiteManager to parent "nedit" which supports only widgets.

Does anyone else have nedit up and running and/or can give me some insight on what this error message indicates is broken?

Thanks for any tips!

Robert

How did you install NEdit? I have version 5.2.2 installed through Fink, and have had no problems running it with the latest version of OroborOSX and xvnc. I do seem to remember having this problem myself, but upgrading to a newer version has definitely solved it.

I used the installers from http://macosx.forked.net/ but it seems like they are now rather out of date!

Thanks for the tip; I haven't really looked into fink as there haven't been too many packages I've wanted to install, but if it can fix my nedit then it'll be worth the effort!

In case this thread is of interest to anyone else I got the following reply elsewhere from Adrian Umpleby that helped me to clear up the conflict (and I did set up fink to grab the latest version of nedit as well):

Basically, there's a symbol name conflict between libXt and libXm.

The easiest workaround (I think) is to replace libXt.6.0.dylib (in /usr/X11R6/lib) with the one that originally came with XFree86 4.1.

See the following for more discussion on the subject (and a link to download the original libXt):
