I have had it with the head clogs on my Epson printer. I want to buy a priner that changes the heads with each new cartridge. Can anyone reccomend a good printer for around $150 that fits the bill.

Thanks

I;ve got a Canon S750, been very good. There have been a few other threads about recommended printers recently, try having a look around or do a search and you'll get some more recommendations.

I'm not sure if the heads are on each new cartridge, but I would recommend the HP 5550. From everything I've read, it's an excellent printer. I don't own one but was looking at it since I was sick of my Epson 820. I used it maybe once every 2 weeks and had to clean the heads at least twice just to get it to print right. I finally got fed up since it was wasting my ink. I bought a cheap HP 3420 since I just needed a basic printer. I was amazed by how well this printer worked. Since I bought it a couple months ago, I'm still on original tanks and they haven't clogged once. Not only that, but the printer is much quieter than the Epson. Even though I don't have a 5550, I would say that printer provides the best bang for your buck. And while I'm not sure if the heads are on the cartridges, from what I've heard and everything I've read it's a great printer.

What's wrong with Epsons? Second Epson printer I've have - Epson Stylus Photo 925 and I'm very happy with it. Not a problem with it at all! :)

Had a 785 EPX and was happy with that one too - just needed a newer one to keep up with me. :)

I have had only slight problems with the Epson, specifically the 800 and the very next model up. These were donated and I have them set in a network. Trouble is the memory on them stink. I have to turn them off after two jobs, then turn them back on after 5 minutes.

I have slight problems with the HP Deskjet. Sometimes it prints everything and sometimes it cuts off the last letter in each line. And I can't print a document that I converted from a PC to a Mac. But the Epson will print it. Go figure.
Zaxcom,
What model Epson do you have? Some Epson do a cleaning when you insert the new ink cartridge. The trick is to wait until the low ink light is flashing before changing them and to use Epson cartridges. Those generics really do not work well.

Don't go with Lexmark either...

I have already replaced two of them, both having unique problems. one wouldn't print in color since the day i got it...the other constantly needed to be reconfigured...i tried to tell them it was their drivers but they wouldn't listen.

As of right now i'm using a three year old Epson...those are incredibly noisy.

I agree that the Epson printers seem to clog up pretty frequently. I'm on my 4th Epson, because I like the quality of the print, itself. However, the Stylus Color 980 that I'm using is driving me nuts with clogs and warmups...

Not only are the printers kind of aggravating in regard to wasting ink and having clogged heads, but Epson is MISERABLE about driver spport, particularly for Mac. Not just printer drivers, but also scanners. Especially scanners.

However, as much as Epson annoys me, I don't see how I'm going to resist the Stylus Photo 2200. It's awesome.

Pretty much anything that's HewlettPackard requires ink cartridges that have built-in jets. (Hence the $30 per cartridge price tag...)

One thing I'll say about HP printers is even when I set the quality on Draft, they look great! But if you set them on Normal or (god forbid) Premium quality, you're in for a good wait. They take FOREVER! =o)

Get an HP if you want quality and aren't concerned about speed or the $30 refills.
