Need Answer to this...ASAP

I just went to my Systen Profile... and under... Software....Applications I am finding things such as Microsoft Word...and under Last modified it says
4/07/04... among other Microsoft stuff such as Powerpoint and Excel....etc...
Does this mean that this computer was previously owned... I ask because I have not loaded Microsoft into this box... and I bought this "BRAND NEW"
from Fry's about 10 days ago..... and I had already had to exchange it because the last one I had, was a return... and when I tried to Register my PowerBook, Apple told me that the serial # had already been Registered....
I Paid full price for this PowerBook.. and I am just trying to make sure that it is not a refurbished model.... Any help would be very helpful....

does your mac have ms word on it? the last modified date on the mac means the last time that file or app was changed. that most likely is the day that version of word was compiled and burned on the install cd. my word has the same date, and i did a fresh install, so it is a date that ms set in the app. if you were able to register it w/apple w/no problem, then don't worry. what are its specks, cpu&speed, ram, hd size, screen size, etc etc. that will tell me if it is new or not.

But I think that most new Macs come with Office Test Drive. Just out of curiosity, what does Word say when you go to "About Word" under the Application menu? It should say who it is registered to, if it was previously installed by someone else.
 
Yah, U R right... it is a test drive of Office...
I guess I am just parinoid being that so far I already had to exchange my computer once.... and then to top that off...the guy who sold me my
set up, sold me the ONLY Printer /scanner that is not Mac compat...

and sold me a used Video capture device that had a bunch of software that was not Mac compatable either.... Very uninformed sales man... even though
I kept asking him if the things he was selling me would work with Mac.....
he assured me that they were...
 
You most probably have the MS office trial version installed ntg to worry about it last 30 days and its there for people to get the feel of it

the serial Number already registered is a mystery to me I would clarify this ASAP with the place you bought it from
 
I exchanged the PB that the serial # had been registered...
My new PB so far has not had anything in it that had been registered...
but non the less after that little mishap... I am a bit careful....

I did however activate the test driver of Office 2004...
