So I'm trying to set up a network between my Mac and Laptop.

Heres what I have done so far:

I took my ethernete cord from my Modem and put it in the "internet" port on my router. Then I took two ethernet cords and put them in slots 1 and 2 on my modem and inserted them into my laptop and mac. just like the directions say.

heres the thing..all the lights come on on my router..even the internet light but i still can't pull up webpages. Even the wireless card in my notebook is picking up a "strong" signal from my router.

The i proceed over to 192.168.1.1 and start configuring my router. but i must be doing something wrong because it keeps stalling out.

i'm pretty confused. the router and modem is telling me i should be connected to the net but i can't pull up any content.

thanks...if anyone needs some more info i'll be glad to try and help.

First of all did you read the directions for the router on how to set it up. Also did you open up OS X's system Preferences and went to the Network system Preference and select in it the style of routing the router is doing (DHCP, etc)?

there wasn't any instructions for a MAC setup and I'm new to MACS so I'm not sure where all the stuff is on the network yet.

Go to Applications Folder->System Preferences->Network. I don't remember if Panther had the same tab as Tiger, there is a button on the bottom that says, "Assist Me" If you have this button, run the assist program
