Hello I have a 2007 macbook not a pro... 2 questions... first: How do i find out what OSX version it is running... When I try to update software it say

Software Update can’t find the update server. Make sure you’re connected to the Internet, then try again.

I am connected to the internet via wifi... the connection is fine... I need to switch the update server and do not know to go about.... It is a used laptop... that i acquired from my cousin.... only used it for school.... Thats the server that it is trying to reach.... If the name of the server it is tryin to connect to for update will help i think i can find it again... srry a bit new to mac :/
anny help would be greatly helpful :)

Thank You FLiPP

Click on the Apple symbol in the left hand top corner OS x, click it and select 'About This Mac'. Explore that and you will reports on all objects/application in your Mac.

It sounds as if the school reconfigured Software update to a local school server. Try making a test account in System Preferences->accounts and boot into that, then try Software Update to see if it works.

I will try that thank you :)

Should I make it a ? Standard
Admin
sharing only
group? those are the options of accounts no test account?

nope i made a test admin account and no dice :/ what a bummer been tryin to figure this out for some time now.... any other suggestions would be great

Well you could try a "Combo " update to see if that will fix it. First from my first suggestion look at the version of OS x you have and go to Apple download page and download the latest "combo" update, like the 10.6.8 Combo update, just with YOUR version of OS X (that YOU failed to mention so I directly like to that combo update).

the version 10.5.7 I think its leopard.... srry about this i am a new convert to mac lol.... I really am greatful for all the help :)

Then download and run the 10.5.8 Combo Update. It might take a while and put new firmware on you Mac but it might fix your problem. Please report back after installing it and tell us if it fixed your problem.
