Need help choosing the right printer

I want to have a printer integrated into my LAN- but I've got no clue which printers work with OS X. I recently had several printers which I could not get to work (tried everything.. gimp-print, ...).

• Color printing is a need.
• I want a printer that is accessible from all my Macs (OS 9 + X) and also from Windows.
• It should be a small (and good looking) printer.
• It should have either an internal or an external print server (so that I can print without having one computer on acting as a soft-printserver).
• It shouldn't be too expensive (less than € 400,-)

It's going to be a printer for home-use which will print like 300 pages/month.

Does anyone have recommendations for me which one I should go for?

I don't have an answer for you personally, but I was hoping that someone could respond and tell us both which LASER (GDI included) printer works well on all platforms.

Brother Network Printers work very well on both platforms. I use a 1670N.

then the Hardware link on the right side of that page, the next page click on Printing. A color laser probably won't be too low cost.

Xerox has the Phaser 6100 color laser printer for about € 650,- . . .
Does anyone know if that one is any good?

Short for Graphical Device Interface, a Windows standard for representing graphical objects and transmitting them to output devices, such as monitors and printers.

what im actually looking for is a cheap printer (color; ink or laser) that supports postscript

For Postscript support don't expect to spend less than $500 on a printer (color inkjet).

On the inkjet side, HP or Epson would be the best bets. For color lasers then Xerox is your best bet.

Phaser 8400 (http://www.office.xerox.com/perl-bin/product.pl?product=8400&page=modl) starts at $999.

Phaser 6250 starts at $1999.

havnt been able to find a Postscript compatible color-inkjet. does something like this even exist??
couldnt find any on the hp and epson homepages . .
