Need Help for GSA-4040B DVD Burner in Panther

Hi jlmartel,

unfortunately iDVD does not have the burn support to any _external_ dvd burner, Apple created it that way. The other programs should just work normally with it though.

As of yet, I don't think anyone has found a way to add burner support under Panther -- the files you edit like under 10.2 aren't the same under Panther, so until someone comes up with a way to do that, I think we're stuck with Apple's list of supported burners.

I believe there's a utility called PatchBurn on versiontracker.com that may work, but I don't know if it'll add support under 10.3 yet.

Good news! We don't know if it actually works yet or not, but a French site has posted an application that supposedly adds burn support under 10.3. The link:

Read about it today at http://www.xlr8yourmac.com

Edit: it seems that the archive is a UNIX executable file. All of my burners are supported natively, so I don't need this, nor have I tried it or know of anyone who has tried it. Use at your own risk.

The burner patch only adds support to iTunes. It will not add support for iDVD. If you want iDVD support, your only option is to have an internal DVD burner that is supported. Some people have gotten iDVD to burn to this drive, but it has to be internal, and the master drive on the IDE bus. You can burn DVD's to this drive using Toast, but it doesnt' do anything close to what you get from iDVD. Take a look at the drive compatiblity database at http://forums.xlr8yourmac.com/drivedb/search.drivedb.lasso for more information.
