Hello i had to reinstall my mac osx version 10.2 and i read that apple no longer offers updates how can i update my mac or is there a termination date for the updates from apple.thanks
need help upgradeing from 10.2 plz

I assume you tried "Software Update" and got nothing?
There are a bunch of security updates for 10.2 still on the www.apple.com site:
10.2.8
If you wish to stay in 10.2 rather than upgrade to 10.3 or 10.3, consider downloading those and burning them to a disk.

i would like to upgrade to the best version that my 2003 imac g4 1.0ghz will support and preferably one that still provides updates that are supported from the apple site.10.3 would be nice is it still supported by apple.thanks for your time

Weeeeellllll . . . I had until recently an upgraded G4 Pismo--G4 550 MHz Power PC--and it could run all the way to 10.4.11--never tried to load 10.5--I think that is for Intel only.
So unless someone knows otherwise, I think you can run up to 10.4.11. This means you need to get either installation disks or upgrade disks. At this stage since 10.3 and 10.4 are "old" and everyone is getting 10.5 and getting excited about 10.6, you might as well get a full commercial installation disk for 10.4.
If you get "update" disk you may need the intervening disks. You can get a full installation disk for 10.4 very cheaply on eBay, on some Mac sites--I even know a dealer who sells them. You can PM me for his contact information.

If you want to stay with Jaguar (10.2), then you can update to the latest version of Jaguar (10.2.8) either through Software Update or by downloading the 10.2.8 Combo Updater (which I recommend).
If you want to move to 10.3, 10.4, or 10.5 (which your G4 iMac will be able to run, albeit slowly unless you get enough RAM), you need to purchase the retail disc of the respective OS X version (10.3/10.4/10.5) and then download the latest update for the one you purchase either through Software Update or by downloading the respective Combo Updater.

As nixgeek notes, yes there are still updates available on the website.
Make sure you "max out your RAM." My upgraded processor could take a gig. That plus the G4 550 made 10.4 run fine. "Slow" only happened if I wanted to run more than one application like this Firefox while listening to a video while other things are going on.
So with a Gig processor, you should do fine.

was wondering what type of ram my g4 imac 17in flat panel has model number #M8935LL/A.thanks oh and getting a little confused sonce everymac.com says it takes DDR SDRAM and the memory finder says it takes 200 Pin PC2100 DDR SODIMM which is it.thank you for your timeand have a nice day

Your iMac G4 uses two different types of memory... one, which is under the bottom plate, is designed to be accessed by most users and takes a PC2100 SO-DIMM and can handle up to 1 GB modules. The second require special tools to access (and it helps to have the service manual when doing it) is a 184-pin DIMM which currently (on your system) has a 256 MB module in it, but can also handle up to 1 GB.
All that means that your system can handle up to 2 GB of memory. But you'll most likely have to get help for going beyond 1.25 GB (which you should be able to do on your own without too much trouble).
