Need help with a font.

The font is a free version of 3 of 9 barcode which works really well, but I need a taller version (3x taller). It's a simple process, but I don't own the program to do it and it's not worth the 300 plus that typetool or fontlab cost.

Anyone know of a freeware program that will let me stretch the font? Or is anyone able to do this for me? I contacted the original author without success.

Any hints of how to get this puppy to grow up? :D

(ps: I only need the numbers to be taller)
 
What will you be doing with it? if it's for anything print, you could also use PhotoShop or Illustrator to stretch the numbers a tad.

I was worried that I was on your ignore list. :) :)

I need to print 700 barcodes for borrowers cards in a school library, so stretching them one by one is out. I have Barcode Generator, but that also works one by one.

Typetool distorts the output. I tried the demo and the stretching the font is _simple_ but the output has a watermark wave that makes it ugly and useless.
 
Nope, never considered you for an ignore. :)

I've not worked with that font, but could you simply bump up the size of the bar code? You'd get horizontal and vertical stretching, but you might be able to add kerning to reduce the horizontal stretch while still keeping it scannable. It might be a bit of a chore doing 700, but you might be able to use some macros or a library to ease the task, depending on what typesetting app you're using.
 
I tried that, but it didn't give me the size I want. I want the code for the borrowers card to be about 3 x 5. The base font is has a 1 x 4 ratio with a four character code, so I think the kerning would distort the code!

I found a windows shareware program that should do the job. Softy says it should work. I'll try that at work, if I can still find a windows machine. The school got scared of being raided by MS or BSA and they switched to Mandrake (at my suggestion).

I have converted your barcode font. Increased height by 300 percent whilst keeping width to 100 percent, then scaled the whole font down to 33.3 percent to keep the original height. Would this be OK?

Not sure if I can attach it to this message, but if you email me I'll send it by return.

PS: Only done it for OS9, but I'm sure that will be OK.

in fact, no it didn't. Something in the shrinking I guess.

But I found that certain point sizes in the original font give me a solid code on several lines. It was not too hard to set up the document with three lines of numbers and then switch the font.
 
Stretching the barcode will cause it to be unreadable. If you are doing 700 of these for a library, it sounds like an extra $300 dollars to get it done adds up to about $.42 each! :)
 
The extra $300 is for the program to stretch the font... :D

Try working for an Egyptian and then run the only $0.42 past them... :D

vertical stretching shouldn't cause any problems, but the the scaling down seems to have screwed things up.

Nonetheless the three lines of the same number has worked fine. A quick macro made the process relatively painless.
