Need help with jaguar problem..

iMan

?¿?
Ok this is what happend.. I installed jaguar and 0s 9.2.2.. when I tried to connect to internet with my internal modem on my PB lombard it told me that the modem couldn't detect a daile tone, this was in jaguar, so I checked the phoneline and it was working ok. at this point I thought it might be a jaguar bug so I rebooted in to OS 9. Guess what, I got the same error. No daile tone!

Every thing was working fine before I installed jaguar and re installed os 9.
When I installed it I did a clean install of both systems, cleaned the harddrive and zapped PRAM.

Now to the strange part.. the modem is not dead! I manualy dailed in os 9 with the remote acces panel and I'm on line writeing this now...

I have no clue what's going on, I would be greatfull for all the help I can get. I don't know what els I can do to fix this.

Thanks a bunch

Viktor

This probably isn't your issue but whenever i restart my PowerBook it defaults to Airport for internet connection. I need to remember to choose the modem.

Hey twister, maybe It'll help you if you rearrange the order of the network
connections.

Go to the Prefs/Network panel. Open the second topmost popup, where you select the network interface you want to edit, and chose the entry at the bottom. It's "Network configuration".
On this panel, you can deactivate interfaces, and rearrange the order OSX searches for a network connection simply by dragging around the entrys. The first interface is at the top, so drag the modem entry to the top of this list, and maybe deactivate the interfaces you don't need.

hope it helps you

Well what I did was I reinstalled os 9 without jaguar (clean install)... But the problem is still there. So I guess it's a hardware problem.

I hope I can fix it some how since the modem is still working

If anyone know anything of this let me know, please

Viktor

I have had similar problems - check out these other threads for more info, maybe this will touch on your troubles

Thanks smithpix, but that's not the same problem I have. Mine is not working in os 9 either.
I haven't tried it as for late.. i'm hoping that it will fix it self since I have no clue how to..

I had an issue that sounds similar - it was to do with the line itself. It worked fine for voice, but the dial tone could not be detected by the computer. If I tried another phone line (I had two) it was OK. I turned off the 'wait for dial tone' option in the settings (can't remember where exactly now - haven't used dial up for over a year).

Try the computer on another line if you can. That will tell you whether it is the line or the computer.

Thanks roger, I have to try that.. I really hope it is going to work.
I have ADSL at work but at home I use modem to connect to internet and to send mail, seems pointless to get DSL at home aswell. i work in an internet cafe so I surf allday long :p

I just look at external modems, expencive!!

:D Happy happy joy joy :D

my modem is working again. I still don't know what happend but it's all good now because I'm back online again.

Thanks every one for helping out
