Need software for movie playback .AVI

drunkmac

has a mac beyond repair
I downloaded a huge 700mb .AVI file the other day and it wont play in WMP or QT. I'm assuming because of the size and .AVI tag on the end its encoded in DiVX. DiVX doesnt have a player or whatever for the mac and when I had winblows, there was software you could use to identify the proper codec and where to download it. Can someone help me with this? Id really like to watch my Arnold Schwartzenegger video! :p

Although, currently im going through a situation right now. There are some AVI codecs that do not play AT ALL on a mac. Ive been trying every codec known to man, the only workaround ive found is to convert it to a basic compression from a pc. :|

I know this is a very old posting, but some people might still run into this problem. If so do this:

1.Download VLC
2.Convert the AVI file using VisualHub
In VisualHub's advanced settings, you can use VLC to decode it. Works perfect and you can view and edit with Quicktime or Final Cut etc…
