I'm trying to help a friend with his G5 iMac from many thousands of miles away. He's using OS 10.3.9 and claims that his problems started after he updated Safari to 1.3.1. At the same time he also updated Security update 2005-007 and Security update 2005-008
He has no problems sending/receiving email but is unable to connect to any Web sites using either Safari or Internet Explorer. Safari gives him the following message when he tries to go to, for example, Google: "Safari can't open the page "http://www.google.com/" because it could not connect to the server "www.google.com". IE gives the message: "The attempt to load [any URL he tries] failed."
My guess is that he has a configuration problem. But I'm at a loss to suggest what to look for.
Any suggestions will be gratefully received. (My friend is a recent convert from the PC world.)
