Why is this happening to me?

It seems to have happend all of a sudden. I am not able to modify entries in NetInfo as and admin user, only as root. This has not alwasy been the case and is not the case on my other OS X machines.

The only recent changes to the box have been the installation of the Illuastrator 10 demo (required admin rights), Freehand 10 Demo, and I created and image of my system and saved it to another drive. Disk Copy need admin right to alter the / volume...i am not sure why, but it did.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
holmBrew

watching system.log when i try to modify NetInfo entries i get the following:

<snip>

Feb 9 09:33:00 localhost netinfod local[198]: Authenticated user holmBrew [501] from 127.0.0.1:49593
Feb 9 09:33:00 localhost netinfod local[198]: Remote user holmBrew may not modify directory 27

</snip>

also I am not sure this is the same issue that is in the previous reply...

yep, that is what i get....

[sam:~] holmBrew% nidump hosts /
255.255.255.255 broadcasthost
255.255.255.255 -DHCP-
127.0.0.1 localhost
...and others that I have entered

I also discovered that Directory 27 is the Id of the machines directory. I got that from:

[sam:~] holmBrew% nifind -apv machines
machines found in /, id = 27
name: machines

this problem is caused by installing the Adobe Illustrator 10 demo. it seems to change the default perms on the volume...those bastards...what the hell do they think they are doing changing shit on our machines!! i'd like to kick the shit out of the bastard who did this!
