I have a FreeBSD server running Samba and some mapped drives.

On my windows machine, I can transfer a 100 MEG file in no time.

On my Tiger, it takes 2 MINUTES to transfer SEVEN (7) Megs!!

What's the deal?

The machine is a dual 1Ghz, 1Gig ram G4.

I use my server for all data.

Thanks!

For the Mac, try using NFS or something other than Samba. There seem to be some issues with Samba on OS X apparently. Leave Samba just for the Windows machines.

I haven't had a chance to play much with FreeBSD (need to download ISOs), but I believe you can add it with ports. As for configuring NFS, there are some files you have to look at like exports and such in /etc. i tried fiddling with NFS once under Linux but didn't have enough time to dedicate to it.

thank you....I am working on it right now.. (with a few beers)

FreeBSD is awesome. I really like how you can make it as minimal as you want.
