Network Folder and Custom AFP Shares

Quick Question...

What is the folder /Network for? Should I be able to put an app inside /Network/Applications and access it some how on another machine? Or do in need OS X Server? And does /Network/Users allow me to share users over two machines?

I'd like to be able to share applications over two computers and if osx has a build in method then i'd like to use that. If it does do something, where do the apps go?

Another...

This is probably obvious but, how do you share a folder over AFP. You used to be able to do this in 9, don't know about X.

Thx

AFP sharing is native to OS X since it is built upon TCP/IP.

For AFP sharing, the computer connecting to you needs to specify AFP

afp://

Additionally if you have diabled appletalk, then the default connection of computers connecting to your computer is going to be AFP.

Setup file sharing in the System Preferences->Sharing (assuming you have an IP address allocated using Network Sys Pref). check mark Personal file sharing and people can connect to your ~/Public folder.
