Network not appearing in Finder

Hi,

I am using my mac powerbook G4, OS X VERSION 10.4.11 in a windows workgroup environment.

All was working well and I was able to see all the windows PCs in the workgroup "CCIL" and access their shares.

Recently, however, I was unable to browse the network.

On checking I noticed that the workgroup name IN THE DIRECTORY ACCESS UTILITY was set back to the default entry "workgroup". I changed this back to "CCIL".

I am still not able to see any PCs on the network and the Network icon in Finder is not effective any more.

Unable to understand this problem.

How do I debug?

Thanks in advance.

No, it doesnt.

Whats more - the problem appears to come up intermittently. This happens even though the workgroup name is now correctly entered in the Directory Access utility. I thought it was due to a software update in progress, but even that was not so.

Like for example, right now, the "network" appears without any contents in the window pane.

I can ping the PCs on the network using their IP addresses, but cant see any of them on the network.

Is there any other way I can debug this problem?

Thanks in advance.
