network places

ok, so a mac newbie!
i've had my macbook about 6 weeks, managed to network it and connect to a network printer.
my question is, when i connect to my network and have the network places displayed in the sidebar, why is it every time i go close my macbook and then open it again, the network places disappear and i have to go through the process of looking for them again - is there a way of maintaining these icons after the macbook has gone into standby and then opened again?

go easy, i'm a mac newbie don't you know!

regards,

gazza

The Finder sidebar does not list places; it lists connections. You cannot maintain a connection while powered down or while in sleep mode. You might try to make aliases (shortcuts in Windows parlance) of your remote volumes and place them on your Desktop.
