Network Preferences? Seemingly Evaporated...

Hi,
Neither from dock's System Preferences (simply not there), nor from Finder (same issue), nor from Help (doesn't come up), nor from Spotlight (network.pref.pane comes up, saying: "you can't install the "(null") preferences pane because it is already installed"), nor from Airport Icon (there it is, namely 'Open Network Preferences' but upon clicking it absolutely nothing happens) --- can I locate Network Preferences. It is simply gone. Internet is working fine. Everything is working great. But I can't find Network Preferences anymore! Help! I have tried accessing it from after having made a new account. But that doesn't help either.

I have no clues as to how this happened. I have googled for 6 hours but have not managed to find some proper and adequate info. I guess it some really banal answer to it, but please help me out.

Thanks in advance!

All the best,

If it were anywhere, you would find it in /System/Library/PreferencePanes. What version of Mac OS X? If it's truly lost, the easiest resolution might be for someone to share the file with you and then for you to Repair Disk Permissions using Disk Utility.

Hi,

everything else is showing up and working correctly (iMac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.2). Only that I couldn't operate Network. That is to say, from utilities I could. Somehow certain files got deleted (the pref-pane files, and possibly some others as well, as TechTool Deluxe suggested some hundred files missing). That's in any case my own hypothesis. Now, I last night I backed up my files (I am using Time Machine), disconnected it, then erased and re-installed the whole thing anew. It works now. But thanks for your kind will! Well, the reason why I didn't simply involve Time Machine in the process is that I hadn't backed up all system files, only the ones with importance for my work.

Have a Merry Christmas everyone.

All the best,
