should we now rename the thread countdown to powerbooks? ;-) we've had several reports over on macnews.net.tc about pb-updates this autumn. and 1.33 GHz iBooks certainly don't make the current PBs look better. ;-) next tuesday, maybe?

Wow, finally the price difference between US AppleStore and german AppleStore got better. At least for the ibooks:
$999 (without tax) - 1059EU (= $1308) incl. tax + 2 years warrenty
hmmmmm, very tempting if you consider I can drop more than 30% on my tax-report..

Ooh, nice that there's built in Airport Extreme and the price drop too. That brings down a wireless iBook $200, awesome. But I don't see, other than that, what the difference is? The other specs look the same.

Sadly, you can't get a SuperDrive in the 12" model. There's the PB 12", of course, but right now that doesn't look correctly priced. ;-)

Add bluetooth and a bigger disk to the 12'' ibook and you have a great and reasonable portable mac. A dream not only for switchers.

There seems to be a bug on the site....if you hit Select on the 14inch, 1.33GHz (middle one), then at the customize screen, in the top right where it lists the current specs, it lists the processor as a 1GHz PowerPC G4, not 1.33GHz...

edit:
Hehe, looks like they forgot to update it...the first two on the left, when gone through the same procedure, say 1GHz, and the one all the way to the right, says 1.2GHz

Is it pretty much being taken as read that this bout of iBook updates will be followed by Powerbook updates? I've not been keeping track of Apple hardware for long, so I'd be interested to know whether they usually do follow this kind of pattern.

I'm looking to get a 12" Powerbook, and as someone commented, it doesn't look so much more "power" than the iBook any more. I was going to go for the Powerbook because of the build quality (which I feel is better), and also the fact that the 12" Powerbook was more powerful, and had more connectivity options buillt in. Now, I'm not sure that any of the reasons for the Powerbook stand any more. Rather annoying since I was just about getting ready to order, I think I'll hold if there are likely to be updates within the month.

Newer information suggests that Apple won't update the PowerBooks until the end of the year, which I think is a pity... Still: I'd wait until then, if you can, since you'll probably eat your hat if you buy a PB 12" now. If you feel alright with the iBook 12", however: I think they're good notebooks. I've had a 12" 800 MHz G3 iBook for a long time (and now my girlfriend's using that, it's still good, albeit a bit older...) and for _them_ this is the time to buy... Get the internal Bluetooth module - as it's better than a USB bluetooth stick you can add later - if you think you'd ever need Bluetooth.

Fryke is there any literature to back that up (the part about no updates till the end of the year for powerbooks)

I ask because my friend is considering buying one and i told him to wait till thanksgiving, because there was a good chance they would get upgraded -- two friends, actually.
