New iMac G4 has not the 2MB cache

G4 on the iMac has only 256K cache, and not 256k + 2MB like in 800/867 G4-Tower.

This mean a speed reduction for all purpose or only for heaviest task?

iMac, Velocity Engine & MPS copr. rate
In apple site an image show an MP3 compression rate of about 6x using iTunes, my iMac G3 400 performs a compression rate of about 3x.
Below the mentioned image i read that velocity engine makes possible the compression rate showed in the image, but, compared to my iMac (400mhz vs 700/800mhz), seems that the more speed derive only from the more mhz.
What is the compression rate of an iMac G3 700? and of a G4-Tower 800?
 
The lack of cache to that extent will affect virtually everything, not just specific tasks. But the extent to which it will slow things down ... probably not too much. I wouldn't be seriously concerned over the lack of cache. The rest of the system is still fairly zippy, and considering its price point, I think it's appropriate. Consider it a loss on par with about 30 to 50 MHz.
