New iPod item!

Looks cool... I wonder how much it will affect battery drain. I'd bet that it won't be that impressive when you can only use it for 10 Min.

yea it says it drains a little bit and i'm kinda unsure about that. Probably wouldn't be good for long trips unless you had a cig adapter as well. What is the best fm transmitter that everyone uses?

The iTrip has been promoted for awhile... I think they had a booth at MWSF. I doubt it would signal a new iPod release, mainly because apple hasn't been know to let release dates out to ANYONE. Mabye, but I doubt it.
Looks like a great adapter though, I think once apple puts an audio in jack on the iPod (hopes) the trip could be used to play am/fm radio. That would rock.

The site has been up for awhile, so I don't know how new it is. I've heard it's coming to an Apple store soon a number of times since before Christmas.
While I do agree that's it cool-looking, I went out and bought a different FM transceiver, the Akron Soundfeeder.
It uses 2 AAA batteries, lasts for a long time and works easily enough. Sometimes there's a little bit of interference when radio station on the lower end of the spectrum bleed over to the setting I have it, but that's rare.
In fact, when I'm out, I often use it to broadcast to my Nokia's built-in radio so I can listen to music and take a call if one comes in. It would be nice if newer iPods had this, but then I'd have to go and buy one...

Mine is on order. iTrip may ship as early as the end of the month but they have LOTS of pre-orders in already. I use iRock every day and I'm pretty happy with it, however i hate dead batteries, re-charging my batteries, and the fact that sometimes i leave it on. iTrip sounds wonderful but i still don't understand how it works exactly. Check this out. From the iTrip people on my question on how i choose which station to broadcast to.

The installer puts a playlist of stations on your iPod. With this playlist you can select any station between 87.9 and 107.9.

I just don't understand that. How does the playlist control which station i go to? I guess i'll find out when mine arrives sometime in April ( i hope )

Yeah I saw this a while ago too, pretty cool.

The only thing I'm not too hot on is the was the frequency is set (by playing files with the iPod). Sure it's cool, but a little clumsy in my opinion.

gotta get one o' them. for my new soon to be released 40gig iPod.........I hope it comes! soon! that is if it ever will?!?

The playlist setting sounds like a good idea in order to keep any other weak signals leaking onto your frequency and impacting the sound.
The fact that you can set it to anywhere on the FM dial. Just choose a frequency (or a couple of them if you have long commutes) where no radio stations are transmitting, lock that frequency onto your iPod and go.
The one I have has a knob where you can dial in what frequency you want, but it runs on batteries, so the iTrip probably piggybacks some features from the iPod itself as simplification, which is why it doesn't need batteries. Hopefully the iPod update allows for a strong battery to deal with the extra drainage.

And it also shows that it is possible to link an FM transceiver to the iPod, something future iPods should incorporate.
