New Mac Mini or stick with Dual 1.25 Powr Mac?

I don't know a lot about system architecture, but I was wondering: What is faster, my current Dual processor 1.25 GHZ Power Mac or the new 1.66 GHZ Dual core Intel Mac Mini?

Including processor, disk drive speed, ram, etc.

I am not sure if I would be significantly upgrading my performance if I was to get the mac mini. I would like the new Power Mac but can't justify getting one until the intel chip comes out for it. Any thoughts on performance?

Thanks.

Processor: mini is faster.

Disk Drive speed: mini is technically faster (since it's SATA vs. PATA in the G4 tower), although I'd bet you'd see that your DP 1.25GHz drives operate at about the same speed.

RAM: mini is faster.

Actually, the drive would probably be slower, since the 2.5" drive just doesn't operate as quickly as a desktop variant. SATA/PATA wouldn't matter much there, really... If you need a fast harddrive, I suggest adding a quick FW drive to the mini on which to load the system. (The internal one can be a backup system.)

it really depends on what you are doing with it. because most app are still ppc built, and would be running under rosette, they will not be running as fast as apps for the intel chip. also, your g4's have l3 cache which really speeds things up for graphics, making it run like a dual 1.5gig g4 with out l3 cache.
but imo, the mini would not boost your proformence enough to justify buying one if you are planning on getting an intel based desktop when they come out. i would save my money and then have that little bit extra when they came out to get the better model with some apple upgrades like more ram or bigger, faster internal drives. also, you could max out the ram on your dual g4 to 2gig, and that would be a cheap way to boost your proformance a little bit.

btw, if you do get the mini, i know of a great home for the dual g4::love::

Unless you use a lot of disk access, or math, or 3D acceleration, the mini will be much faster.
