New Master Drive

My old master drive started making a clicking noise, the sound of a failing drive so I bought a new internal drive to run as the master. When I start up my computer off the OS install disk and it asks to choose a destination nothing is there. The drive is a Maxtor ata 133 7200 rpm 80 gb 8 mb cache. I have a Powermac G4 Quicksilver 867

I'm wondering if it might have something to do with the ATA controller on that Mac which is only ATA-66. Have you also checked to see if the jumper pins are in the proper position? Check to make sure that it's set to Master if it's not.

Here's a link to the specs on your QuickSilver from Low End Mac:

I fixed my problem. First all I had to do was rearrange the jumpers to the right positions and then run disk utility, erase the new drive and rename it then it popped up. Thanks for the help though. I am running Tiger
