Absolutely delighted with it. I have quickly got used to all the bits and bobs on there.

Just a couple of questions now.

I have managed to login to MSN Messenger using aMSN and Adium. Adium seems to be really basic and I don't like the interface at all so I think I'm going to stick with aMSN. I can't get my webcam to work in it though? When I send my webcam or my friends send theirs it says connecting for a few seconds and then says that both parties have cancelled. Does anyone know a messenger that supports webcams? When will ichat support MSN & webcams? Seems ridiculous to me!

I have a customers external hard drive which is formatted to Mac which has been dropped and now the disk clonks and struggles to spin. On a Windows PC I would simply ghost it to a new hard drive, being that is a mac ghost doesn't recognise the file type of the drive. Can anyone recommend some software that would enable me to recover files from a faulty hard disk?

Cheers :)

If you want totally free cloning utility that OS X Macs can BOOT from (Using System Preferences->Startup disk, after a clone) then use Carbon Copy Cloner.

To find all kinds of soft use either MacUpdatew or VersionTracker. Since I giving you sites here are some of my must have favorites:

1. Accelerate Your Macintosh : they have the most excellent Drive database.

2. MacRumors Buyers Guide: Know when to buy a Mac.

3. MacOSXHints : Every type of software tweaking you can think of. This is a great resource.

4. MacWorld : Good Mac news service

5. The Loop: Mac news from several sources and are a lot more nimble then the above MacWorld now.

6. Mac360: Mac news from a sassy girls point of view without being to girly. They come up with some cool things/ideas though.

7. The Joy Of Tech comic: The update this daily and really makes you laugh out load.

8. BareFeets: They have been testing almost anything Mac or that connects to a Mac for speed, for years. This is the Mac ultimate speed testing site.

9. "Well known" TCP and UDP ports used by Apple software products & Using iChat with a firewall or NAT router.

10. ScreenCast Online. Great video podcast i urge every Mac user to watch. A close second video podcast that is shinny happy Geek news is GreekBrief TV. Both of these podcasts are really cool.

Lastly your question for getting files of an bad hard drive I can only think of Disk warrior which is the disk utility that every Mac user should own. Also read the article The X-ladb's Data Recovery article is a good place to start.

So don't be afraid to ask questions in all Mac forums. If you give all you Mac specs most Mac posting people will try to help you.

Although its not exactly what you are looking for, I have always used Skype for video chats. It has always worked great no matter what.

I don't IM, but I've heard good things about Adium, which works on MSN, Yahoo (I think), and AIM.

Welcome to the light.

The interface on Adium is totally customizable, I like it a lot. And it's power is that it can run the various IM systems (MSN - Yahoo! - ICQ - AIM - Jabber and more) simultaneously. I don't know what aMSN looks like, but I find the regular MSN interface atrocious, maybe it's just me. If you are comfortable with it, and it doesn't get in the way, then more power... :)

BTW - when thinking of fixing disks, Norton / Symantec come to mind and a long time ago they were the thing to use, but now, with Mac OS X, they are the plague. Do not use them, ever, ...., seriously.
