I have just recently converted from PC/XP professional.
came to MAC because of the hype about the capabilities for designers.

what i need help with is, the layout, especially, can some one tell me if there is a add/remove programs anywhere?
also by having a basic HD partition, having OS 9.2 & OS X 1.1 on the systems, i have found out if i would like to use MSN mesenger on the mac i wud have to have a operating system version of "OS X 1.1.3", as i have OS X 1.1 does that mean i need a new OS?? or can i upgrade with services packs or something?

im sorry if my questions have been answered before, but i really need some help, otherwise i will prolly whack this computer with the keyboard caused by frustration! lol

*snd me a e-mail of anything i can have that would be useful knowing.

thanks heaps!

First, open the Apple icon - top left corner of screen - to About this Mac. That will tell you the correct version of the operating system you're using, and you can post it here.

To add a progam to a Mac, follow the read me that comes with it. Some are just drag and drop, others have installers. To remove a program, some installers have an uninstall option, otherwise, just drag the program to the trash.

MSN messenger you can download for OS X here;

http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/14983

You can also use a free program called Fire to connect to MSN, ICQ, AIM, Yahoo and others.

You can download that here;

Hi dev :) Welcome on boards.

You don't need a program to add or remove programs. Normally, if you have a program in a .dmg file, click it and it opens. You'll see a folder with the program inside it - drag the program to your applications folder. Done! To remove, drag the program from applications forder to trash. Done! Easy, huh?

For msn messenger, you might like multimessengers. Fire and Proteus both can use AIM, msn, yahoo and ICQ and Jabber... You can get proteus here http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/12703 and fire http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/8933 (check for 10.1 compatible version!)

You might want to upgrade your system to 10.3 or 10.2 .. ot'll be a lot faster. Which mac do you have now? (sorry for curiosity)

oh, bobw .. i see you were fater ;)

as i have OS X 1.1 does that mean i need a new OS?? or can i upgrade with services packs or something?
You can follow this link to update your OS all the way to 10.1.5. This is as far as you can go without forking out more money to Apple. If you can afford it spring for Panther, it is definitely worth it, especially after jumping from 10.1. BTW you might have to install a security update before you can upgrade the OS, but the links for that are on the page I've referred you to. All the best, and congrats on the move to OSX.
