Newbie Question - Quitting App

I downloaded a small program (Sidenote) and, after installing and running, it seems to have frozen. It's not showing up in the Force Quit menu and double-clicking its application icon does nothing. Do you guys have any advice? I'm using OS X. Thanks!

Try right-clicking on it in the dock (if you have a one button mouse press control+mouse click) and select "Force Quit".

Thanks for the reply, but it runs in the background and doesn't show up in the dock.

Activity Monitor is in Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilites

After it is running make sure it is in focus (it's menubar is at the top of the screen) and press Apple+1 to display it.

Another way is to use the terminal. Open the terminal app and type top. Find what you're looking for in the list, then note the PID number associated with it. Hit command + N for a new shell window (or file>new in the menu), then type sudo kill xxx (where xxx is the PID number). Enter your password when prompted.
