No more mail sounds :(

I noticed today that my mac mail application stopped making sounds (when I send, receive, etc). I checked my preferences and they were set to make sounds, so I didn't know why they weren't working. There was nothing wrong with the speakers because I had been able to listen to music and my other applications still made sounds.

Now NOTHING is making sounds anymore, even though the volume is all the way up. It seems the problem is not hardware, because before some sounds, but not all were working. Now I can't play music and my other applications aren't making sound either.

Any ideas?

First, try this:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300832

If that doesn't work, move the Mail preference file to the Desktop, and restart mail. See if sounds work correctly then.
Mail preference file is located in /Users/<yourusername>/Library/Preferences
It should be called something like com.apple.mail.plist

Don't delete the preference file, just move it to the desktop. It stores all your account data, which can be a pain to re-enter.
