No sound in OS X

Can anyone out there help me? I am running a beige desktop G3 with both System 9.2.2 and 10.1.2 When running 9.2.2, I am getting sound output as normal, but when I boot up in 10.1.2, I get no sound output at all. Does anybody know why this is?

Sounds simple, but check your sound prefs panel. When I switched from 9 to X my iSub 'stopped working'. Found an Apple tech document and it had just switched on to mute. D'oh!

Thanks, Factor41 - I wish it were that simple . . . I checked the sound 'control panel' and mute wasn't checked and the volume settings for both alerts and sound out were 'mid-table' on the sliders. Any other ideas, people??
