No Sound In Quicktime, Indows Media Player, Realplayer...

started with just warning in windows media plaer and quicktime, something about incorrect 'codec' but then video would play fine. now no sound for any video, anywhere in quicktime, internet etc. although itunes, garageband, system alerts fine.

any suggestions, i ve followed a troubled shooting guideregarding setting audio midi settings to 44100 Hz but didnt help.

BTW, the audio in Windows Media, Real, and most QuickTime compatible files has absolutely nothing to do with MIDI.
