Windows Media Player has been discontinued by Microsoft.
I would suspect that the video you're trying to view is using a codec that WMP doesn't understand or doesn't have installed, and, in this case, there is no workaround other than installing the codec. Unfortunately, OS 9 is long dead, and not much development goes on for it anymore, so finding the correct codec could prove impossible.
