Nokia 6600

Hi.
I just got a Nokia 6600 as a gift(WOW!), and after playing around with it for a while, i began to wonder if i could use the IrDA port on my Wallstreet to sync with the thing. Anyone know how to actually do this?? I dont think there's mac software on the CD!

Is your wall street capable of handling bluetooth? If you get a cheap bluetooth adaptor, it'll be so much easier. I have a 6600 and love it. Great phone.

No i dont think i would like investing in a bluetooth adapter for my wallstreet. But i could do that with my iMac. Is 6600 compatible with OS X? That'd be really cool! (or will i have to use VPC?)

What software are you running on a wallstreet? If OSX, it has bt capability built-in, and an adaptor costs less than $25.
But it will work fine on your iMac. iSync 1.5 does a better job than 1.0. Had a few issues to sort out with business names in the contact list, but it works fine otherwise. Bluetooth is a cinch with it and the sms function from the Address Book is a bonus.

I use a card reader for the few mp3s I have on it, but I have used bt and successfully sent photos, videos (great for trips home when I used QT to convert some home movies to .3gp and installed them on the phone to show to the folks) and ringtones (and iSync info) back and forth without a problem.

Wallstreets won't be able to take a USB bluetooth adapter, because they don't have USB ports (unless you invest in a PCMCIA card one).

The IrDA port on the W/s is very difficult to use in OS X, if not impossible. In OS9, it works fine with the Infrared File Transfer Utility in the Control Panel of a Wallstreet with native OS9 installed.

In OS X - you can try to see if you have more luck than I ever did: try opening /System/Library/CoreServices/Menu Extras/ and running IrDA.menu.

It would always just quit on me - I figured it was for use with the TiBooks which were the last Macs with IrDA ports.

yeah thanks for the advice. I finally ran out to get myself a USB bluetooth adapter for the imac. Works like a charm!

Glad to hear. If you have QT 6.5, you can take home movies (or tv shows *cough, cough* and convert them to .3gp and tey play great, even if it's Real player on the phone.
Also, some decent Mac themes available, if you're into that. I've also added a black rubber case to replace the one that came with the phone. Increased the grippability factor and I like the dullness of the phone compared to a lot of plasticky looking ones.

Oh thats a great tip for the 3GPP thing! Now i can show off my nephews first steps to my friends!! :D

Where do i find those Mac themes you talking about? I'd love to get them on the 6600!
