Nokia N70 and my G4 Desktop arent friends?

Hi, I have just got a Nokia N70 and when I plug it into the usb on my Mac G4 Desktop it doesnt recognise it. Ive read on here that it would work if i bought a bluetooth dongle and did it that way, But why have they supplied this cable if i then have to go buy another piece of equipment? Is there a 'cheat' or soemthing i can use to recognise it?
I just want to transfer photos and songs
Any ideas would be greatly appreictaed.
