Non-Apple Application will not open

Imac running 10.6.8
Computer was off for 4 days, then booted and could not open any of the Non-Apple applications. Set up new account and Non-Apple applications work. Prefer not to transfer all Library's to new account.
Might have a preference corrupted.

These non-Apple applications--how did you install them? If you were running them from their .dmg file mounted on the Desktop, then you have to drag them from there to the Applications folder or wherever you prefer.
